Below are county maps of NC, showing the number of Gurganus's (any spelling variation). The dates used are first the birth dates, and if no birth date, then their residence date, then marriage date, and then death date no other dates known. Each person is counted only once.
Note that this includes only those who have dates associated with a county. There are many that have dates but no county, or a county but no dates. The results may also be skewed by the fact that I have done more digging myself in Martin, Beaufort, Pitt, and Washington Counties. Other counties may have information not yet compiled here.
Also note that the county boundaries have changed over time. For maps of how the counties used to be, check out http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccatawb/countyfm.htm.

The data shown above comes out of my own compilation of Gurganus information over the years, sources included in the data itself. The NC county map comes from the NCGenWeb site.
